Testings

The American Academy of Martial Arts holds four general testings a year. These take place in the following months.

  • February
  • May
  • August
  • November

The student’s friends and families are always welcome and encouraged to watch the students test. Photography and video is fine, but please no flash is allowed for safety reasons.

Black Belt Testings
Adult black belt testings are private (only Black Belts may attend). They are scheduled as needed. Requirements vary depending on belt degree.

Testing Requirements
For every testing and depending on the student’s belt level, they will need to perform some or all of the following:

  • Warm-ups (Drills or Katas)
  • Bag Techniques
  • Rolling or Slap Out drills
  • Locks and Holds (Restraints)
  • One-steps (Self Defense)
  • Sparring (Kick Boxing)
  • Board Breaking (Blue belts and higher)

Students are given a “Testing Sheet” of requirements listed for advancement to their next belt. Black Belt Instructors will carefully teach and guide the students on the specifics of each requirement.
