The Annual Event

The AAMA event comes around once a year, two weeks before the May testing. Students of any belt level are allowed to sign up, and there are four different events to choose from. Students are graded against themselves, there is no first or last place. Every student could earn a gold, silver or bronze based on the amount of effort they put into it.

There are instructional DVDs available for the event katas. See the office for details.

Event 1

Consists of the participant performing the required AAKS empty-handed kata for their belt level. The katas for event #1 will be taught to the students in regular class.

Event 2

Consists of 2 to 4 self-defense one-steps (depending on age-group). Each one-step must contain 3-8 techniques. The one-steps must originate from the techniques within the participants AAKS kata. Practice for event #2 will be in the students regular classes.

Event 3

Consists of the participants performing an AAKS weapon kata. The kata for all blue and purple belts is staff form #1. The kata for all red and brown belts is sai form #1. Black belts may choose any one of the AAKS weapon katas. Black belts, please let your sensei know as soon as possible which kata you would like to do.

Event 4

Consists of 2 to 4 weapon against weapon one-steps (depending on age-group). Each one-step must contain 3-8 techniques. The one-steps must originate from the techniques within the participants weapon kata.
